South Korean carmaker Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the second-largest vehicle manufacturer in India, received 120 confirmed bookings for Kona Electric Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in 10 days.
Hyundai Kona Electric was launched in India on July 09, 2019 priced at Rs. 25.3 lakh. The Kona EV is steeply-priced, but lack of competition currently in the Electric Vehicle segment and looking at the prices of Kona in other markets it is decently priced. Globally, Hyundai has sold over 15,000 units of Kona Electric SUV.
Vikas Jain, National Sales Head, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. said, “We have received an electrifying response to India’s First Long Range Green SUV – KONA Electric with 120 Confirmed Bookings in just 10 days of its launch expressing the Indian customers’ acceptance to high end future technologies offered by Hyundai. The digital enquires and footfall at our dealerships have increased as the customers are excited to experience Electric cars. The change of perception and adaptability is clearly visible as there is huge interest and request for test drives.”
Kona Electric comes in India with a lithium-ion battery with an ARAI certified range of 452 km on a single charge. A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) delivers 136 ps power and 395 Nm torque. It can accelerate 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds with a top speed of 167 kmph.
Hyundai Kona features a unique front grille with an integrated charging port. Other features include 17″ alloy wheels, LED headlamps with LED DRL’s, roof rails and rear spoiler, rear LED tail lamp with skid plate. It has 2600mm wheelbase
Interiors of Hyundai Kona gets front ventilated and heated seats, 10 way electrically adjustable driver seat with lumbar support. It also gets 17.77 cm touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Kona also gets a sunroof and heated wing mirrors.
The battery can be fully charged in seven to eight hours and using the 50 kW DC fast charger can charge the battery around 80 per cent under an hour. Hyundai will provide customers with a portable charger and an AC wall box charger. The portable charger will be able to plug into any three-pin 15 Amp socket and charge for a top-up to 50 km in less than three hours. The 7.2 kW wall box charger can top up the vehicle within one hour of running up to 50 km. Hyundai India has also tied up with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to install fast-charging stations at select petrol pumps.
Kona Electric is available at 15 dealerships across 11 cities in India. It comes with 3year/unlimited warranty as standard and 8 year/1.6 lakh km warranty for the battery.
